Long term was basically referred to next step advancement in technology to 4G from 2G and 3G.
Prior to the advent of 4G, in all wireless technology voice calls were delivered over circuit switched core and data were delivered over Packet switched core. But in this, both voice and data would be delivered over Packet Switched core.
LTE supports MIMO (Multiple -input and Multiple- output), so higher data rate can be achieved.
LTE uses OFDMA(Orthogonal frequency division multiple access) in the downlink. Due to which it increases total user capacity of LTE network.
