Circuit Breaker works when current flows above the breaking capacity of the circuit breaker (On-load scenerio). It restricts the abrupt increase of current (fault) and thus open in short circuit condition. Basic use of the circuit breaker is switching and protection. An automatically operated switchgear machinery.

On the other hand, Isolator works on off-load scenario means it protects when the load is detached from the circuit and works mainly during the maintenance time. It protect the user from abrupt triggering of trapped charges that left after the discharge of source from the circuit. It is manually operated switchgear machinery.

Circuit Breaker is switchgear product whereas isolator is switchyard product. There are some difference between them like rating, functions, structure.
circuit breaker trips when there is some fault like over current, earth fault, etc...but in case of isolator tripping does occur when there is a fault. isolator doesn't want maintenance in comparison to Ckt breaker.

Circuit Breaker : A Circuit Breaker is an ON load device. It can operate either Automatically or Manually. It trips whenever a fault occurs. Fault can be Short Circuit or Overload. It makes or breaks the circuit under normal and abnormal condition.

Isolator : An isolator is a switch which is used to ensure that an electrical circuit is completely de-energized for service or maintenance. It is an OFF load device. It disconnects or Isolates the circuit from the main power supply.
