1. At the time of manufacturing of a Transformer, it is unknown that for which type of load transformer is going to be used. Hence it is rated in kVA.
2. Iron losses depend upon voltage and Copper losses depends upon current. Hence total losses are dependent on VA. This makes the rating of a transformer in kVA instead of kW.
