PRI (Primary Rate Interface) is a line which is used to carry voice, data and video from the telephone exchange to customer premises.
There are two types of PRI lines –
i) T1 lines- It has 24 channels. Out of these 23 are bearer (B) channels and one data (D) channel for control purposes.
ii) E1 lines- It has 30 B channels and 2 D channels.
B channel- It carries data along with voice.
D channel-It carries signalling and controlling information.
At telephone exchange all channel's signals are multiplexed and passed through the PRI lines and then at offices with the help of Digital PBX(Private Branch Exchange) with PIR card and Demultiplexer, it is distributed to the desired end user.
