SMPS Comprised of a switching circuit which turned On and OFF at higher frequencies. The main use of SMPS is to maintain power in non-conduction state or when the power fluctuates due to ambiguous source fault.
SMPS are having very high efficiency and are mostly used in computers, drives, servers and other electronic component where stability in power is required.

Classification :-
According to the type of input and output voltages:-
(a) AC to DC.
(b) DC to DC.
(c) DC to AC.
(d) AC to AC.
Pros of Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS) :-
1. Very high achievable efficiency of about (68-90) %.
2. Stable output is obtained even if input is variable.
3. Small in size, modular, lighter in weight, portable.
4. Flexible technology.
5. Combat from short circuit and overload.
Cons of Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS) :-
1. Generates Electromagnetic interference which affects the other electronic components and systems.
2. Complexity in circuit design.
3. More costly than to that of normal supplies which are without SMPS.
