Turbo Alternators are large size alternators which are directly coupled with turbines. They are cylindrical pole machines having synchronous speed of 3000rpm.

1. They have small diameters compared to their length.
2. Air cooling is used up-to a capacity of 100MW generating units.
3. Hydrogen cooling can be used for 500MW generating sets.
4. They have high rated speed.
