The major difference between microprocessor and microcontroller is that microprocessor are the main processing unit which consists of I/O peripherals and some registers but no internal memory is considered in microprocessor. Also for internal communication between units of microprocessor, special communication bus is required. Microcontroller on the other hand are the parent set of microprocessors which possess internal memory, I/O peripherals and its communication. Following points you will get to know the exact difference between µP and µC.

1. Microprocessor has single processing unit fabricated on ICs. Microcontroller is a by-product of development which contains I/O ports, registers and internal memory.

2. Microprocessor utilize external bus to interface the peripherals, but in microcontroller an internal controlling bus is being provided for the inward communication between the systems.

3. Microprocessor is the ALU or processing unit of the system where as microcontroller is ALU with I/O ports and its communication is the cutting edge feature.
