What is Eddy current loss in transformer?

• The Magnetic field surrounding varies with time. Which thus results to the generation of loop
currents in the cores of transformer which is known as Eddy current.
• That current flows in circular manner like Eddy, this results to undesirable power loss which is
regarded as Eddy current loss.

How to minimise Eddy current loss:
• Reduction in the resistance of core.
• Providing laminations between thin sheets.
• The amalgamation of net current of thin sheets is very less as compared to that of in Single core so, thin sheets laminated cores should be used in order to reduce the Eddy current loss.
• The Eddy current is proportionally dependent upon frequency of AC.
